It's like having a reliable assistant constantly looking over my shoulder, helping me provide more focused and helpful feedback. Would I recommend it to a fellow educator? Absolutely — it's an investment in your time and your students' learning.

Question 4 · 6 marks
extended responseHow does the writer use language to convey the narrator's growing unease in lines 12–28?
Student answer
The writer uses short sentences like “the door creaked” to make the reader feel the silence pressing in. The repetition of “cold” — first describing the wind, then the corridor, and finally the narrator's hands — builds a sense of creeping dread. The metaphor “the room held its breath” personifies the setting, suggesting that even the building itself is anxious about what might happen next.
AI marking rationale
Olivia identifies two effective language techniques and explains how each builds tension. Strong use of textual evidence. To reach Level 4, the response needs a wider range of techniques and a clearer comment on the cumulative effect on the reader.
Evidence from the mark scheme
- Identifies a relevant device (short sentence) — Level 3 descriptor.
- Comments on cumulative effect — partial credit toward Level 4.
- Range of techniques limited to two — full marks would need three+.
The potential to save teacher time while still giving quality feedback is really exciting. I tried it on a complex 12-mark case study and it gave my students genuinely useful feedback. I was also impressed with how well it read the messy handwriting.

- resentment, fuelling the rise of extremist
- parties through the late 1920s.
- The economic collapse of 1929 then
- destroyed what little stability remained...

I really enjoy using Marking AI — it's incredibly user friendly. I can upload multiple assignments, track individual students, and it calculates the overall mark for me. It's also impressively good at reading handwritten work.

I love this app — it shows the student how they could have got full marks and it highlights what they got right all very quickly. It is the most helpful app I've used in a good while.

This is an amazing platform. I tried using incorrect spelling and bad handwriting to test it out and it worked amazingly.
